I posted a great score of 8500 for myself with a 2.5ghz AMD64 and a 7800GTX. But now with the cpu @ 2.6ghz and Prime95 stable for 16 hours and the same GTX speeds, I can only muster up 8000. What gives? Do I need a format? I've thought about formating my OS drive but I'm not sure how to do it. Should I just right click on the drive icon and go to format? I've got my win xp pro cd still but it should install properly right? I think I might format but I just wanna make sure I know what i'm doing.

if you want to format your OS drive you can simply put your windows CD in the CD rom and boot from it and then just go through the windows setup to install windows and it will come to the point where it will ask you to format and partition the OS destination drive.

Thats the best way other than a program to write ZERO to the drive with sets it back to factory stock.

As far as your 3dmark score, hell man, simple little things like background programs to a trojan can cause a 500 mark drop. It could be anything.

look into background draw from other shit running.

Go to your RUN command on the start menu and type in "msconfig" and go over to the STARTUP tab and make sure on the essential shit is starting with the PC.

Startup items load in memory. this is bad.

There are a lot of other optimizations you can do.

Check out www.tweakguides.com theres a lot of good system optimizing stuff on there to get all you cna get out of your rig.

Good luck.

You don't realize how bad i've wanted to know this startup stuff. Theres so much stuff I need to take off. Think I'm gonna format right now too.

Stop worrying about a stupid 3DMark score for one thing....

Hmm, I don't see how that will help my problem? Maybe you can repost with something useful.

Comp loads alot quicker now with all that junk taken off.
