Dead Power Supply?

I was browsing the web on my computer and it just shut off. I think the led power light on the front of the case was still on afterwards. Since then I can't get it to turn on at all. The lights on my motherboard light up, but whenever I hit the power button it won't turn on. All that happens is my power supply makes a single clicking noise.

Whenever i did my build, one of the stand offs wouldn't screw in, and I didn't use it (fixed this after it turned off). I also noticed that the power connector to the blu ray drive was unplugged, even though i was using the drive a couple weeks ago.

Anyways, I disconnected all the psu cables going to the mobo and other parts, and then did the paper clip test. Still nothing but that single click.

The psu is an Antec HCP-850w platinum, that i got after i rma'd a bad hcp-750w gold.Is it really possible that such a supposedly high quality psu could just die like
that?

Computer specs: Intel 4770k (used from hardforum)
Biostar z87 (new from hardforum)
H100i
4x DDR3
1 ssd / 1 mechanical hard drive
blu ray drive
Gigabyte Gtx 780
Antec HCP 850w
Corsair 500r

Is there any way you can swap out the Antec for a different PSU to test? It does sound like the PSU is fault which really sucks considering that's literally one of the best PSUs on the market.

I have a 450w rosewill platinum in my media server , but it's non modular and I would have to disconnect it from 8 hard drives.

I could do it, but it would be a hassle. Would it be possible to take it to a local pc shop and have them test the psu:?
 
Could be the motherboard. Buddy of mine had the exact same symptoms and I first thought PSU as well. Slapped an old spare one in and the problem was still there. It was a 8 year old rig so he just let me build another one so we never found what the problem was but mobo was my next guess. Can't believe you'd have 2 DOA power supplies in a row especially from a quality brand.
 
ehh, I would just test it with the Rosewill. You would have to lug your system around and disconnect the HDDs if you brought it to the shop anyways. 450W is more than enough to run your system at half load. The Rosewill Fortress is a great PSU so should be able to output more than 450W for short periods if needed. Your main concern is confirming whether its the PSU or mobo that has failed. Since you failed the paperclip test, it's likely the PSU.
 
I'm hoping it's the psu since it would be covered under warranty. If it's the mobo that shows how bad my luck is since i was waiting on z97 to come out, which is right around the corner.
 
Yeah from a convenience standpoint, the PSU would also be a whole lot easier to swap out.
You can just hook up your primary drive to the Rosewill when you test while leaving the rest connected to the Antec powered off.
 
like we all suspected, after hooking up my other psu, it fired up and ran fine.

Can't believe antec would give me two duds from their hcp line. The platinum 850w I got wasn't a refurb, it came shrink wrapped brand new.

I'll switch psu brands now for any new builds I do. Hopefully the other companies have an easy rma like antec does with their california call center.
