Hey guys, just wanted to see if anyone has seen my issue before...

WD 1TB black 32MB cache (2009) gets recognized in bios and windows (all the time including now), in windows I can view all contents of the drive but most of the time it takes forever to open folders/files and move files to other drives. When moving items to off the drive itself, the transfer speed goes from 100MB/sec down to 150KB/sec (and basically times out and crashes explorer.exe as I end up canceling the transfer since it goes too slow to be realistic)... There are no noise at all...

Bios prompt me that the drive failed SMART. Which I know is an indication of the health of the drive itself... Is this something I can fix myself?

I have pulled off the drive so that I don't further stress/damage it.

Most likely no. The drive is going to die soon. Get as much data off the drive as you can then either RMA it (if you still have a warranty) or toss it in the trash.

Look at what attribute(s) that are failing with CrystalDiskInfo.

This +1

Drive is dying. Hope you have a backup, in case it stops being read accessible...

CrystalDiskInfo is a fantastic little program. You could also run WD Life Guard diagnostics tools (Extended test). Potentially could be a couple bad sectors, but even in that case, grab your data and replace the HDD.
