Ok guys here's a last resort cry, and it's my own darn fault.
Went through and was modding my box, having a good old time, sleeved my psu and all the good stuff. Somewhere along the line I mixed up the wires going into just one of my molexes and put in the 12v and the 5v lines reversed. Yellow where red is supposed to be and vice versa. Of course this power lead instead of going to a case fan or cold cathode or something cheap went into my slave HDD which had about 70 gigs of data on it I'd rather like to recover.
Now I know something is fried or such, but I see nothing wrong on the control board... No burns etc.
I'm guessing it's something wrong with the drive motor. *play the death march music here* What I want to know is this: Anyone have any ideas on taking apart another drive to make this one work? There were no odd sounds etc out of it... And when I powered on I think it died a quick clean death as 12v power went through where 5v of power was supposed to... But if I swapped out a motor or such off an older drive think I might be able to recue data off it? I know a clean room is really needed as one bit of dust etc and the drive's pretty much toast anyway, but as it is the data is lost one way or another... And I don't feel like shelling out 300 bucks or so plus the cost of a new HDD just to get the data back.
So ideas? Anyone? Help is much appriciated since while most of the important data is backed up on cdr's, there's quite a bit that's not and is lost to me at this point.
