Dead Computer -- Diagnosis?

Here's what happened to my friend's computer...

He added a cold cathode to his cheap, low wattage, power supply and it blew. He then went out an bought a 350W Antec. Plugged everything in and it appeared to work at first. However, sometimes when using the computer/turning it on the screen woudl go blank and show nothing, as if the video card had gone bad.

We tried various video cards(AGP and PCI) and none fixed the problem. It got progressively worse to the point where it just wouldnt turn on. My next thought was that when the power supply blew it took the motherboard with it. All the fans spin, but the Mobo wont post...I hear no beeping when i take out all the memory, pci cards, etc. shouldn't i hear error beeps.

The only thing that worries me about my motherboard diagnosis is that it got progressively worse...does that make sense?

Anyway, he's ordering new mobo, processor and ram...nomatter what it is, that should cover the possibilities right?

Perhaps a bad powersupply, but antecs certainly arent known for that. Would that cause these symptoms.

Try re-seating the RAM and CPU as well. I've had the same symptoms of fans spinning up but comp not POSTing and just taking stuff out and putting it back in has helped before.
