DB-1 noise??

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem...
My db-1 seems to be making a lot more noise than advertised, and causes a really loud vibration in my case. At first, I thought this was a faulty pump, so I exchanged it for another one, but I still have the same problem.

The first few hours of bleeding it isn't too bad, but the sound gets progressively worse as I let it run. The sound is loud enough to hear from 5 or 6 feet away. My laing ddc doesn't even seem to make that much noise.

Am I getting incredibly unlucky here with my second pump? Most likely I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out. There is a staticy sound coming from the pump. At first I thought it was air, but the noise only started after bleeding after leaving it on overnight and I don't see any air bubbles. Can the air be stuck in the pump?

Also, this is my first time using a t-line instead of a res...how long does bleeding take with a t-line? My loop is t-line > pump > mcr120 > cpu block > t-line. I've had it on about a day now...again, the thing that confuses me is that the sound is getting worse and not better as I would expect.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Hmmm, can you pick up your pump, and see if it still makes the same noise?

Have a picture of the mounting system you used? The stock one sucks balls, and rattles around alot :eek:

Mine is totally silent FWIW.
 
Yes air can be stuck in the pump, and if air gets stuck in the pump and you let it run overnight you probably already killed your pump.
 
Yeah, it's a crackling noise -- almost a soft grinding sound -- that is noticeable even when picking up the pump.

I am using the stock mounting, and you're right, it doesn't do much to dampen any vibration :). But I've been isolating the pump from my case to see how quiet it can be, but the crackling noise is the most noticeable thing.

Regarding air getting stuck in the pump, that's frustrating b/c this is the second pump I've tried, and I especially took a lot of care in filling the loop the second time around. I don't know what I could've done differently -- I made sure to keep my t-line completely filled while filling the loop...

Something is definitely wrong if it's crackling... Mine is totally silent, and was damn silent even when air was trapped in it.
 
I had this same problem with mine. It was amazingly quiet the first few hours of use. Then it started rumbling and buzzing, even though it was on Petra's gel. Whenever I turned the pump off after running for a little while, 2-3 tiny bubbles would come out of it, but they would stick to the tubing sides, and I couldn't ever get rid of them. Also, I shook and hit the pump to try to get the air out, but with no luck.

I sent that one back for a replacement, figuring it was a bad impeller or something, and now I have two dB-1s sitting here that I'll be using in my build. How do we go about not having this happen again? Bleed the system of air without turning on the pump, so air can't get into it at all?

Just wondering though, how do you bleed without the pump on?

I wonder if I add a res my problems would be solved? This is my first t-line and it's pretty frustrating :)

You would probably have to take the loop out of the case and rotate/shake it all around.But who knows if that would even help. I'm using a reservoir, so no, that's not the problem.

Does anyone know what's going on here, and how to fix it?
 
Repeatedly squeezing and unsqueezing the tubing going into the pump can help dislodge bubbles. As well as turning the pump off and on repeatedly.
 
i must just be lucky... i dont get much trouble at all bleeding ever... might just be the fact i use a res all the time.
 
+1 for air in pump. It can actually take a long time to get all of the air bubbles out of your loop. I recommend shaking that baby!

I shook the crap out of it, and punched it like it owed me money.

It took me something like a week to get bubble free.

Mine ran for about two weeks with fairly regular use. The pump never got any quieter, no air other than a couple tiny bubbles ever came out.

I haven't had any issues like this with my DDC 3.2. Its too loud for my tastes, but whatever was wrong with the dB-1 was making it much louder than the DDC.
 
I *think* the pump is getting a little quieter. At least the "crackling noise" is decreasing I think.

I tried the suggestions here and moved my radiator around and sure enough some air came out. And I had to slap the t-line and pump for an hour or so while turning it on and off, but I think it's doing the trick. But then again, maybe I'm just getting conditioned to the noise...

I've concluded that I suck at bleeding though.
