Went to a clients place of bussiness (will not say who) and picked up a hard drive out of a pc that the client said was fried. brought it home, opened the antistat bag and it was a WD 3gb HD. Plugged it into my test rig and started it up. The drive spins up, starts to make the dreaded ticking sound, the drive is noticed as a 3gb by the bios, and in windows it has been given a letter and everything, but when clicking on the drive, it wants to reformat, no reformat has happened as of yet. Running the Western Digital utilities will notice bad sectors on a quick and extended check. I have a seagate 4gb that I was going to transfer the info to by using the WD util and doing a disk copy. Can select the WD as the source and the SG as the target drive, click start and it tells me that the source drive is not readable, drive is still spinning. Just being a head-ache.
Ok at home now with the drive, it is WD caviar 33200. just incase that helps
ok nevermind, the computer looked ran a scan disk upon boot up and found some bad sectors, let it repair them and then the drive was bootable again. fixed and money in my pocket.
