Ok, I need some help on this damn computer. I have a HP Pavillion 761n that someone gave me for the simple reason they can't get it to run properly. So they just ditched it and gave it to me. Who am I to say no, i'll make it a CS server or something.
ANYWAY! The computer seems to be stuck in an endless rebooting loop. Windows XP attempts to start up but informs me that it didn't start up properly and what options do I want?
Of course I choose safe mode but it tries to start up but then reboots. If I try to start it normally, it tries then reboots. My first suspicision was the harddrive but I swapped the HD into a different computer, and it started up fine. I did notice that the previous owner added a firewire card, and USB card they didn't need. The errror indicated that it could be because of a hardware change, but that doesn't really make sense because I should have gotten the same error when I swaped it into a completely different system.
So a fresh install I do think is in order, but I can't get the computer to start off of the CD. I called HP to see if they could tell me how, but they just told me the computer was out of warrenty and I'd have to pay $40 for them to even give me that information. Of course I refused to pay $40 for them to tell me how to start the computer from a CD only so I could fix it.
So does anyone have any input on how I can start this computer for either the CD rom or DVD Rom drive? I put the XP disc in both and nothing, I get the same error of the endless reboot loop. Am I dianosing this problem incorrectly? Any help would be great, thanks..
