Damaged pump?

I have some pretty high temperatures with my Maze 4 kit on an Athlon XP 2500+. It's running at 42°C idle (my SLK-900A keeps it down at 34°C) and I think it's because of my pump (a Hydor L30).

I had a PowerPlant but the second time I turned it on, it pretty much exploded (blew a fuse, too!). I tested the pump with a reconnected power cable, and wasn't too successful on the first try because I crossed the wires.

I know I put my pump through hell, but it still works. I just think it's not working as well as it should be. Do you guys think it's the pump?

If it is, what pump do you recommend? I'd like one that connects to the power supply, since I like having the side panels on my case. Two that I saw were:

Any thoughts?

Well, if you suspect that a part might be faulty, the only way to be certain is to replace/test that part.
