So, I found a used D2X for 900. Should I jump on this or keep my savings for the D700?

Camera(s) will be used for portraits, weddings, events, blah blah blah....

Keep saving. Unless you don't have ANY camera yet. In that case get a D5000 kit and THEN start saving for the D700's 2010 replacement.

What do you shoot? If you do landscape or architecture, use a tripod often, and stick with a low ISO, then the D2X for $900 will give you a lot for the money. If you do action, pj work, or anything in low light, the D700 is a better bet.

also, what lenses do you have? because if most of your glass is for the dx then it will cost you a lot more ro upgrade to fx. and nikkor glass doesn't come cheap

At its base ISO (100) the images from a D2X are second to none. However, as you increase the speed, they will quickly get noisy with a usable max of 800. I have a thread around here somewhere comparing the D2X with the D3.

The D700 is a superior camera to the D2x, I've owned both. It has the same FX sensor and low noise characteristics of the D3. Buy an MB-D10 and be happy with that D700. Don't forget to consider the D300 as well.
