Hey everyone.

Doing a complete re-wiring of my semi-old pc, and want to make it very tidy. I am trying to do this with very little stuff bought.

(all master, slave and MB references are what the tag on the cable says)

So, my question is, I have a 2 Device IDE cable. It is much too long, and I only need it for one device. The distance between the Master and the Slave plug is the perfect distance for what I need. Is it ok to just X-acto off the cable between the slave and the MB connector? I do not need two IDE devices, only one.

Sure you can cut it off, I've done it before and it works fine.

Yeah, they're easy to cut. Just take the connector off, find the perfect length, then carefully push the cable into the spike strip looking things on the connector and clamp them down using some pliars and the little plastic cap you took off earlier. When the cable is all connected, use a razor blade or sharp knife to cut the extra cable flush down the other side of the connector.

It was already the perfect length, but thanks.

:)

This Socket 754 PC is really going to be smoking hot once im done with it. :D
