Custom case/airflow question

I am planning on building a custom case out of a sheet of plywood, a 2x4, some glass, and an aluminium rod. I made the design on google sketchup, first thing i've really done on there. I wish i could post a link for someone to download and take a look at it, but it's my first post so can't post links. Anywho, there are just some concerns I have, the main being airflow from the front panel. There is a 22''x.27/64''(roughly 3/8'') gap at the bottom of the case. I plan on putting a triple rad there, along with 3 (maybe 6?) fans. I wouldn't mind changing the design, although I already have the two glass pieces(one 22''x28'' and one 28''x9''), the 28''x9'' can be cut (it's little over 7 1/2'' in the model) but the 22x28 cannot, as it already has the holes in it cut out. The design was made just to see the layout and what cuts i would need to make, so it doesnt show the additional hardware to keep the case together, but that part i'm not worried about. Like i mentioned, the main thing i'm concerned about is the airflow through the small gap at the bottom. I'm not sure if its enough to feed the three fans. My other concern is GPU orientation. I like the idea of looking straight down at it from the top, but i might go crossfire sometime in the future (currently just a single 290x). Is there any benefits to having it vertical vs horizontal? They will be watercooled but as of now it has the air cooler on it. Any ideas/help would be nice.

Which way is "up" on this thing? Is you plan to blow hot air from the radiator over the components? What type of plywood are you planning to use?

And a short 3/8 slot gap won't feed fans well.

The gap is at the bottom front, I wanted the air to go from front bottom through rad. I could move the front panel forwards more. Would a extra half inch be enough? its some plywood from home depot, 3/16'' thick, thats what i designed the model with and what i made all the mesurements for.
 
Well, I'm planning my own case as well and for hidden intakes I think the gap's area should be close to that of the total area of fans that will be using the gap. Maybe a bit less, as they will have impeded airflow from the radiator. You would need around 17.5 in^2 per 120mm fan. May be a bit less, as the fans probably won't be spinning at max RPM and also won't have full CFM because of the radiator. I would aim to increase the gap to ~1in.
