Is there any information about current mobos supporting Ivy Bridge-E when it's released later this year ?

I haven't seen any official information, but I believe that Ivy will work just fine with current LGA2011 motherboards.

Since Ivy Bridge-E will be on the same LGA2011 socket, I see no reason to expect them to require a new motherboard. Every hardware review and rumour site also seems to assume that Ivy will slot right in as a replacement to Sandy Bridge and I can't see fault in that.

The latest Intel road maps show IB-E as being on the Waimea bay platform which is exactly what X79/SB-E is.

I would assume after a bios update, ivy-e should work fine with current lga-2011 mobo's.

Just because Ivy Bridge-E will use the same socket, are we necessarily looking at the exact same motherboards? Or are we likely to see updated motherboards with more up-to-date features? I have no idea if the same LGA 2011 socket necessarily means the exact same X79 chipset and feature set.

I haven't seen anything specific about a new chipset for IB-E on socket 2011 but there are always rumors. There could be one for native support of PCI-E 3.0 although AMD already supports that on the current x79 chipset. This article pretty much sums up what is presumed about the new releases for the moment. There will most likely be a chipset update for Haswell-E on socket 2011 if it comes to pass (X99 ?) for DDR 4 support.

I do know that Asus has already released BIOS revisions for "support of new CPU" for the socket 2011 motherboards. We are hoping it comes to pass but Intel does like to surprise and not always in a good way!

IMO, Ivy-E will be compatible with X79 and Intel will make X89 with some new features just like the Ivy and P67/Z68... chipset.

That would be my preference and why I've been holding off on a Asus RIVE.
