CRT to LCD

Your 19 inch CRT probably has an 18 inch viewing area, but unlike CRTs, LCD's dimensions are for the actual panel, so youa 17 inch LCD has 17 inches of viewing space (17 inch CRTs would generally have 16 or so inches viewable).

The major thing you'll notice about going to an LCD would probably be ghosting, but it depends on the person. All the monitors you have listed are 12 ms response, and the vp171 is a 16 ms panel.

I've seen the Viewsonic VP171, 172x, and Viewsonic 912, and I think they all look great, though I think the vp171b looks best, but they're all relatively the same (from what I've seen). Couldn't really go wrong either way.

The 710T I haven't seen, but I know they had some huge sales on them on Black Friday (like $280 for one).

Also, does your vid card have DVI connections? 3 of them are DVI, and the 710T is analog only. I think DVI is the only way to go for LCD, but have heard people say that the 710T looks fine with just analog.
 
If your going LCD you will find DVI to be a good thing ;)
 
Yeah, I'm getting a new video card as well that's still up in the air right now as well but all the ones I'm looking at have DVI. But I deffinitly plan on going the DVI route.

But all told these are all good choices for LCDs?

i cant speak with certainty on the samsungs but they make very good screens so i have no reason to believe those are otherwise. as for the viewsonics, they are also good. personally if i were buying one of those id get the vp912b. 12ms response time and 19" panel; its all around a good screen. be sure to pick it up from dell though for like $640. they lower their prices alot so you just have to hit them at the right time ;) gl
 
I have two Samsung LCDs and they are freakin great. The stats don't seem as good as other LCDs at first glance, but I can say from experience that the stats lie. I have had several brands of LCD and the Samsungs are some of the better ones. I am a gamer and I have had NO problems with my monitors and Nvidia cards.

I currently have an 192N and a 213T, well worth the money.
 
I honestly don't think you'd go wrong with any of them, as 3 of the 4 you listed look great, and I have not seen the 710T in person yet.
