I have a crossover cable and i need to transfer files to my new computer. i tried using the file transfer wizard w/ windows xp on both and for some reason i'm not doing this correct. Is there a better way?
thankss

Map the drive you want to get files off of as a network drive.

I don't trust the file and transfer wizard. If your only option is a crossover cable, you have to hardcode the network info into each machine. You'll have to make up the gateway, IP, etc. Then once you transfer the files, you can set the new PC back to automatic.

Yeah, except even 10baseT is a shitload faster than parallel port transfer.

Does windows file/printer sharing even rely on tcp/ip? I thought it used netbios on a local network. It's been a couple years since the IT academy so I can't remember. Try sharing whatever you want to share on the one computer, then go to network neighborhood on the other computer. I don't know what the hell the file transfer wizard is.
