Like the title says, is a crossover cable needed to connect a cable modem to a router? Or will standard straight through work? Or either?

Thanks

Many times a standard straight-through cable will work just fine.

Most home routers will automatically adjust itself so that crossover and straight-though cables will work. Either way, it should work fine.

I'm assuming that the cable modem is designed to be plugged directly into a NIC. Keeping this in mind, a crossover cable is what's supposed to be used.
