Apologies if this is a bit of a duplicate, but I couldn't find anything immediately obvious on this.
My HD6970s are getting a bit long in the tooth for gaming at 3840x2160, especially since I routinely have to disable crossfire for games to work leaving just one card trying to push such a high res. So, I wanted to know - what, if anything, has changed with regard to the way you enable/disable crossfire on contemporary cards like the 290X - of course, using 3840x2160, this will be in the context of Eyefinity.
As things stand, I can enable/disable crossfire fully with the HD6970s, but in order to do so I need to unplug the displayport cable from the graphics card end (monitor end doesn't do, sadly) and replug it or the monitor will stay in powersave.
Is this fixed with the more recent cards, and are there any other caveats I should be aware of? I seem to recall hearing the 'catalyst AI' trick for dual-GPU cards was removed recently, but I wasn't sure whether two physical cards were affected in any similar fashion
