Can I crossfire a normal 7970GHZ edition with this card and use the ASUS as the main card to use all the displayports? I assume so, but I just wanted to double check.

Yes, but bear in mind that the ASUS card is 3 slots, so most MOBO's will have zero gap between it and and the 2nd card.

I run mine with the asus as 2ndary for this reasons, as the temps were much higher with zero gap.

Can you run it secondary and still have displays plugged into it? I am running eyefinity and want to get rid of the tearing from using adapters, hopefully...

You should be able to set the primary PCIE slot in your BIOS. I was able to set the bottom PCIE slot as the primary, and run the Asus card in that slot. This way, both cards can get enough air.

I also got this card for the 4x display ports. A couple of things:
1. The Asus card uses a full-sized Display Port connector, not a mini (yeah, I was an idiot)
2. There is not a lot of space between the ports, so make sure the ends of your Display Port cables are not too wide.
3. The Display Port closest to the motherboard is disabled by default in order to enable dual-link DVI support. There is a tiny switch on the card to enable this port, and set the DVI to single-link.

Hope this helps.

I knew about the full sized displayports, I looked at the purty pictuur :p Will these cables work with it?

I was planning on getting an Asus Sabretooth X79, I will have to look into seeing if I can switch the primary PCI-e slot. If that fucker can't do it...

I'm not sure if those will work. I have these, and they are a little too wide. I did get three of them to fit, but I would never be able to fit four.

I would imagine that you can switch the primary PCI-e slot in the BIOS. It seems like a pretty standard feature.

I think that I will probably snag the Monoprice ones and just take apart the cable if they don't fit...

Anyone know how to set the 2nd pcie lane as primary on an asrock extreme 3 board? A quick poke around the bios revealed nothing

Why wouldnt you just get the P9X79 PRO if your going 2011 socket. That way you have room for a single slot between the card and use the asus in the top. IMO its superior to the sabertooth anyways. Sabertooth is basically same as the P9X79 LE but with an ugly colour scheme and a slightly bigger VRM heatsink. Which the PRO also has.

Too late, already pulled the trigger lol
