I think this is a good setup so far, what I need help figuring out is the rest....

I need 2 hard drives, and quiet fans along with one of these 2 cpus...please advise me on which ones to get....also does the q-pack have a 80 or 120mm fan in the back of it?

Hey I have the Q-Pack the fan is 120MM. The setup you have is great although with the stick 120mm fan I would change it to an Antec quiet fan. Also the q-pack power supply is not reliable I reccmoned getting a different power supply ASAP. Please note that a normal ATX power supply can fit inot the case but your drives will have to be short (optical drive lenght)
Power supplies to try would be then Enermax Liberty and the Antec Neo series. Let me knwo if you need any more help

I would wait on a card. Do a search of the specs for windows vista. you will need a new monitor and a new card for vista due to DRM.

Before any of you start with the BS check the facts about vista in the reviews. .. not on Microsoft's site but the reviews from the computer trade industry
 
As far as I know the 7900GTX supports HDCP. They are really marketing the HDTV graphics card. I would never call the 7900GTX a poor graphics card choice. You really can't go wrong with a 7900GTX or a X1900XTX. You have a great system there.
 
I didn't see where that card is compatible with the new DRM that is in windows vista or the new connector type.
 
thanks for the feedback guys, as far as HDCP I really dont care as I wont be watching movies on this system, gaming and work only. As for the CPU what should I go with, the 4400 or the opty 175? Thanks again
 
I would go with SATA Seagate Baracudda series. They are the best and very quiet. They also have the best warranty at 5 years.
 
 
If you check out the game mags the new games will be on the HD DVD format and the blue ray format for the computer which means you will need a new monitor and graphic card. I have been reading this stuff for a while now.
 
Since you said that you're gaming, then getting an X-Fi XtremeMusic would be good. It'll sound much better than onboard sound in games and takes stress off the CPU, giving you more FPS in games.

I very seriously doubt this. Neither hardware is on the market for those, and when they do they will be expensive for a long while (and that's if either one of them succeeds, I sure hope not). Also, DVDs are just becoming the popular media for games. Look how long this took; they'd rather make a game 3-6 cds than one DVD. It will be a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time (if any time at all) until a HD DVD or Poo-Ray (hehehehe) will be NECESSARY.
 
if theres no special reason for it, id get the Enermax 500W/600W PSU instead of the OCZ, as its smaller. it will make ur life much easier trust me.
 
The Enermax liberty is a very high quality product. As I stated there are testimonies of people getting damage to the system using the stock aspire powersupply.

On a nother note I did run accross another power supply by aspier a 500watt at www.tigerdirect.com it seemed to be solid but then I read that there are problems with all the aspire power supplies.


Also thanks for the info and insight on the games being on DVD I handn't thought of that thank you for correcting me. I am not being sarcastic I really needed to hear that as I was so quick to jump to conclusions when I read all that DRM stuff about Vista.
 
wurd. When my friend had a X800, the fans in his system actually slowed down. But once I lent him my 7800GT (Got it for $299 CAD on Boxing Day, still don't have my Shuttle PC yet :mad: ), it ran 6 hours of BF2, NFS:MW and Lego Star Wars just fine. But go with the Enermax anyways.

I want to set up a RAID 1 config, how would I go about that?

Same as what you're looking for just cheaper and with blue leds.

Also you should consider holding off on the power supply as the ones currently being shipped with the QPACKs are much more powerful. Currently:

vs previous.

+3.3V +5V +12V -5V -12V +5VSB

Notice the increased amperage available on the +3.3V and +12V as well as the additional 12V rail and higher combined output.
 
I already have that power supply in the system but I was told that the qpack power supply wouldnt be enough power anyway
 
My point is that the current Qpack's powersupply is an improvement over the faulty one that I'm sure you've read about. I would try it first before replacing it as does provide adequate power for just about any setup you could cram in there.

You shouldn't feel obligated to purchase a new one as Aspire has addressed the powersupply issue...

Hey, I'm currently building an xqpack machine, and I bought an Antec SP-500. $59.99 w/ free shipping, modular power supply. Thought it would be great. Well, yeah, I ran into this problem because I didn't think through its dimensions.

However, I have been unsuccessful in finding shorter optical drives.. If you could do me the favor of linking to where I could find some. Looking through Newegg (where I usually buy my parts), dimensions aren't even given on the cd drives. I'm trying to find a black combo drive, DVD reading and CD burning.
