Creative X-Fi between SLI cards?

I just wanted to hear if anyone has experience with placing a sound card, not neccesarily the one mentioned, in between 2 graphics cards in an SLI rig (A8N32-SLI Deluxe Mobo)?
As far as i can make out, it should be possible to put an expansion card in the slot between the 2 cards, but im hesitating to do so, fearing a thermal issue. Any feedback appreciated.

i had a x-fi in between both my 7800gtx 512mb for a little while. they were on air then. the top card ran a lot hotter and it also boosted my chipset temps by quite a bit. i aimed a 120mm fan between both cards from the front corner and it took the temps back to normal.
im on water now so i dont have any issues whatsoever with that particular setup.

I've read that too much heat can cause a soundcard to get popping sounds. That's why X-Fi has a heatsink. I wouldn't put a soundcard between two video cards. I put my soundcard in the furthest slot from the video cards.

x-fi has a heatsink? since when? maybe the fatality version has one. im not sure about that...

the reason he is asking because with the sli setup/mobo he is asking about the only free slot will be between the cards...

For several months now the X-Fi has shipped with a heatsink on the main chip.

The original batches of X-Fi cards used a smaller fab process for the chip and consequently didn't need the heatsink, but Creative decided that the smaller process wasn't yielding enough good chips per wafer. So they decided to move to a larger process and find a way to dissipate the extra heat - hence the cards now ship with a heatsink.

Where did you see that info abotu switching manufacturing processes? I am pretty sure the orginal chip was 130nm wans't it?

As Haste266 says, it is correct that the only available PCI slot is the one between the 2 GTXs, so my choice is using that slot for a sound card or using the onboard sound. Needless to say i would prefer an X-Fi :)
