Got my new PC parts. I've got two 320Gb Samsung SATA drives I would like in a Raid 0 config. But, heh, how would I do that? I've got Vista 64bit. Can anyone give me simple step by step on how to do this? If I have to re-install Vista I don't mind , also I've got a PK5-Deluxe w/ 4 gigs of 8500 ram. Thanks for the help..

Btw: I know it isn't safe to do Raid 0 but I back-up on DVD's often and don't store a lot of important files, I just want the best performance for my apps and games.

Hook the drives to the first two Nvidia SATA ports. Enable Raid0 in the BIOS on these ports. Install Vista...On the first boot, enter the Nvidias RAID controll scren and set up the stripe size, etc. When Vista reboots (the first time, to finish the install) interupt this reboot, enter the BIOS and set the new RAID array (that wasn't there before) as the boot device. reboot and Vista will continue the install.

It all makes sense if you just think it through.

I don't have Vista, so Im not sure the differences between XP, which I use, and vista when installing RAID 0. In XP, it needs to be done when installing the operating system. You need the RAID driver on a floppy, and press F6 when prompted during the initial stages of the OS installation. Im pretty sure that w/ never hardware and Vista, there is a different method.

I have had RAID 0 for many years, have never had a failure. If you keep weekly/monthly backups, and critical items as they are created, then RAID 0 is as safe as a single drive.

Just enabling raid in the bios doesn't really get the drives ready for it.
After you enable it in the bios, during boot up there should be another part where you press a certain key to get into raid setup. (e.g. F12)

Once you're there, set the configurations (raid type, stripe size and etc) - and make the raid.

Upon reboot, go back into the bios, and check to see the boot priority - and make sure it's set to the raid drives.

Also, it'll be best to do a fresh install of the os.

During vista setup it *should* automatically detect the raid drives. Partition it, then install the os.

Ok so it's pretty east then, I'll post back if I get any problems - sigh I hope not

set up raid in Window Vista really easier than XP.. make Sure you need the Raid Driver to install..
