Hi i just got a new computer, before this i was using a Intel made Pentium 2 MMX 300 Mhz 128 MB of memory. I got an " Engineering Sample"(a friend of mine told me of this) CPU, its a 3.4c Unlocked. I have it overclocked to 3.8. My question is : Is this a good high end cpu? Or do I need to upgrade this CPU to play games fast. My graphic card is a Powercolor ATI Radeon 9800 SE 256 bit 128 Megabytes. I would like to play Games like Counter Strike: Source, Half life 2, far cry and doom 3. Can my computer run it? And if it can how well will it run? I have 2x256 MB of PC 3200 and 1x512 MB mushkin PC 3200 ram total 1 GB of ram in single Channel ram. Is my computer a good gaming system? Also iv recently learned that intel has 2 types of P4s, northwood and prescort. Mine is northwood right? So how much slower is it?

I know a guy who gets Xeon engineering samples all the time. However he uses them when he does and will not part with them. For obvious reasons.

You can get them on Ebay sometimes.
 
Whats so good about an ES CPu anyway? So can you guys tell me how good my system overall is? Im mostly asking about my CPU and video card.
 
Oh ok i c. So how good is my video card? Does it overclock good? And is my Processor a fast one? Plz reply. My friend says its good, but i dont kno if he knows what hes talking about.
 
Wow, i used some of the CPU becnhmarks and im getting near the best out of all these CPUs. But it has nothing to show video preformance. How good is my video card? And how well will it play games? Im going to go buy half life 2 prolly next week.
 
You have a pretty decent card I think. Can run most games at 1024x768 on High. Or even 1280x1024. Well..your card is better than mine at least. I have a 9600 Pro and I get plenty fps on UT2k4 for example.
 
Lol I use to get engineering samples left and right.. ( maybe i still can i havent bought from him for a while)

I use to buy my computer parts from a guy who worked for MSI he use to have all sorts of electronics that werent released yet. :p ;)
 
Your CPU is fine. If you want more performance I would look at getting a better video card. Although the one you have will be fine in games like UT, you will be limited by the 9800SE's crippled memory data bus.
 
I just did research on that, but i found that my 9800 SE has Memory Bus equal to that of a 9800 pro, because mines a 256 bit one. Also is it true these are possible to change into 9800 pro?
 
sounds like artifacts...looks like it can't do it

not too sure if you can go mid way with softmodding like this...

Rams sinks and the vga silencer, to help it cool my card better. Do you think i could make up for the softmod by overclocking like hell? Iv heard of people getting 100-160 mhz core overclocks with the vga silencer and maybe the ram sinks will give me atleast 40-50 mhz on the ram? I sure hope so :(. If i cant make for all the lost preformance from not being able to softmod i hope i can atleast make up a lot of the preformance. What do you guys think?
