CPU running hot!

I just started ripping a DVD, then pulled up motherboard monitor and noticed my CPU temps were at 57 c!!! I turned on my room's fan and and opened the case side, but the temps are still hovering around 53-56 c. Should I stop with the rip, or is this normal? After I finish I have to put on my AS5, have been running it with the heat pad for the last week. I'm hoping to OC eventually as well, but with temps like these... I don't know.
 
If you have already been running it with a heatpad, i don't think its normally a good thing to do and try to put AS on it.

The heat pads are made of a waxy compound that melts when it gets hot. It melts so it can fill up tiny little craters and stuff on the heatsink to improve heat flow. Now that you have already been running, especially that hot, all the wax has filled up the holes.

Even if you scrub at it and think you got it off, there is no way you can get it out of those little holes perfectly. You may make the situation worse by applying AS because it will be too thick.

But then again, i could be completely wrong.
 
Remove the gum that you have right now "heatpad" and apply AS5 then by the time you want to overclock the AS5 already had time to cure.........

Buying a new hsf is probably the best idea, as the wax material on the tIC has filled up the crevices on your hsf and cpu. So the AS probably won't have as good of an affect, but I guess it's always worth a try. If you're worried about temps I say go with the Zalman7000A-AlCu and some AS5. Run u about 30-40 bucks and it runs cool and quiet.

Oh and the ABIT over reports the temps about an avg of 5 degrees or so. Therefore you're proabably around the high 40s to low 50s mark. Which isn't too bad really. You are using the full capacity of your cpu so it's not a surprise that it's gonna run hot.
