I plan on building a headless dedicated folding box and I'm trying to decide whether to use a Pentium 4 ( around 2.4GHz ) or a athlon xp ( around 2GHz ) based system. I have been told that athlon xp's tear up tinkers work units and pentium 4's are better at folding gromacs work units. I'm trying to make the best futureproof solution and arent gromacs work units slated to phase out tinkers units? If thats the case then the intel solution would be the best way to go, right?

I would have to suggest the AMD all around. A 2 gig AMD will equal or outperform a 3.0 Intel on any of the work units. The new cores seem equally fair to both CPS's these days.

Luck
