I just got my dsl connected and all of a sudden my CPU has been spiking to 100! after i connect. This has puzzeled me and the dsl company now. The cpu acts fairly normal while running my 56k. althouh it has slightly been spiking more than usual at start up it goes from 0-7% then sometimes spike to 38% then back to 7 or 0 then back to 55% for a few times than steadies it self somewhat by switching from 0%-7% CPU Usage. i'm completely lost on what to do, i cant use the dsl because once the cpu is at 100 everything lags enormously. i was wondering if you guys have any idea. Ive run adaware and spybot both to make sure i have no spyware mounted on, ive run avg and no viruses, fairly clean computer. I dont have anything other than aim as a start program other than the normal system requirements. I have 22 processes running when my computer starts up which i heard is fine. My computer specs are as follow: Computer Specs
2.4 Ghz Intel P4 - 533 FSB
Asus P4PE Intel 845PE Chipset DDR333 Socket 478
Kingston 256MB PC2700
Generic 256MB PC2700 (Samsung)
MSI Nvidia G4Ti4200 128MB
Forton 400W PSU
LiteOn CDRW 16x10x40x
Liteon DvD-Rom 48x
Maxtor 60GB 7200 RPM
Western Digital 80 GB 7200 RPM
ATI Wonder TV Capture Card
Linksys 10mbp ethernet card

Any ideas??????

sounds like it could be a network card driver problem

its rare but I have seen it :(

Uninstall the drivers for he network card and do a reinstall. The cpu % is spiking because it is getting locked up...

i saw this once with a USB network device. I'd try a different NIC or at least re installing the drivers.

yes it has got to be a dirver problem reisntall all your MB drivers and then do the network card, if all else fail try to tottally wipe and reisntall windows...if that doest help???

Why are you using that old Linksys card? Try the onboard Ethernet and see what happens.
