cpu cooler for q6600

I've heard the xigmatek works well, and is only a few degrees warmer than a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE). The zalman cnps9500 is an okay cooler..., but nothing extraordinary for a quad. I ended up switching my zalman for a TRUE and my temps dropped a bit. Its rather expensive though.

Heres a list of coolers ive read that are pretty good:
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme +scythe or yateloon fan
Thermalright Ultima 90 + fan
Zerotherm Nirvana
Xigmatek
Zalman 9700

I grabbed a Scythe Ninja Plus rev-b recently and it cools the core2quad nicely as well. I got it for $33 on sale at NCIX, so substantially cheaper than the CORE.

What's a CORE?

and what kind of temperatures are you getting with that Ninja? That's the fanless design, correct?

It CAN be used fanless, but not advisable with a c2q. I've got one on my newly acquired c2q, and I'm idling at ~40c, 3.2ghz @ 1.3v. It's coupled with a 120mm 1600rpm fan, I can't remember the brand but it says D12SL and it's orange.

Load temps?
My stock cooler idle's at low 40's, but under load shoots up to high 60's running prime95 large ftt's on all 4 cores

C O R E = nothing... was half asleep when I wrote that. Meant TRUE, the Thermalright Ultra Extreme.

You could run it fanless, depending on how close it is to the exhaust fan in your case. I tried that for a bit with my P180B and a simple fan extender (see http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1281396 for details) but I didn't realize the v4.33 of speedfan wasn't reading temps properly... if you sign up for the beta, getting v4.34 fixes it. (mostly, v4.34 beta adds 20C to 4.33, and the differential is only 15C, so it reads a little high) I'm running it with a second fan blowing up from the video card now, dropped temps a bit further.

Right now I'm running at 3.4GHz, 425x8, VCore 1.4875 in BIOS, 1.32V loaded in Windows. Temps are 29Cx2 26Cx2 idle, 50Cx2 46Cx2 Folding, and 55Cx2 49Cx2 Prime95 Large FFTs.

I put an Enzotech Ultra-X on my Q6600 and it works great. Running @3.2 ghz with idle temps at ~26C and under full load the cores get to ~45C, this is in an Antec 900 case so that might be helping the temps...

I have the Zalman 9700 on my rig. Right now I am at 3.2. I Primed all 4 cores for 13 hours & it never went above 55c.

Same temp and overclock here with the Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme. I have the cpu fan running at very low rpm though.

Jesus and the Mary Chain the Retail box HSFfor the Q6600 is a piece of shite. I wish I had known and I would have ordered a replacement at the same time.
