CPU Cooler Failing?

I have a Thermaltake Venus 12 running on my ASUS A8V-Deluxe board with a 3500+. I haven't had much trouble with it up until I moved back from college. Now all of a sudden, when I put songs onto my iPod, the CPU temp goes up to 70C when the fan is running at low speed so I have to turn it up until it sounds like a hair dryer! I've also noticed that everything seems to be getting a lot hotter while playing games w/ medium fan speed (up in the 60's), when before it would MAYBE reach 60 if the fan wasn't turned up at all and I'd been playing for a few hours.

Is my Venus 12 failing, or did it get moved around on the move home, or why would my temps all of a sudden be ~10-15C hotter than before?

My sister had a similar problem... twice... LoL

the first time, the heatsink moved away from the processor (leaning.)
and the second time, the fan on the power supply failed. it was pretty sweet because the PCB in the power supply actually melted, boiled, and encased everything inside a bubble.

I would suggest removing your heatsink and clean the proc + heatsink and re-apply goop.
Then I would check all the other fans for oporation or blockage.

also, what RPM are the fans running at? you can check in the bios, or use a motherboard monitor.

I'm running the Venus12 at 2300-2500, have my intake/exhaust 120mm Thunderblades running at 5V, not sure about RPMs though. Should I be able to tell by looking at it if the HSF has moved at all, or how would I know?

well.. in my case I couldnt tell until I took it off. The goop looked thicker on the top side like it was leaning and the goop filled in. then again it could have done that when I pulled it off. it couldnt hurt to pull it off and clean it up and re-apply...
