Counter-Strike studder..possibly getting new computer.

Ok..wasnt sure where to put this thread but General always gets replays so here goes.

About a week ago my counter-strike on 1.5 would studder...like lag every couple seconds really bad... go way for two seconds then come back and studder and skip. Now I was like ok not cool because this happened about a year ago on my other computer so I reformated and fine since but no longer use that computer.

I thought it would work itself out but the next day it was still doing it again; so I disided to play 1.6 and now that skips too!! but yesterday while 1.5 was skipping, 1.6 wasent. Now the next day 1.6 skips...It's so ghey and I have no clue whats happening. So I reformated got everything up running all my programs back and 4 days after my reformat(today)...what do you know, CS skips again. Now Im REALLY upset...for the amount I play and being cal-IM I dont have time to skip/lag every 3 seconds..I get pub owned to death b/c it's so bad. Now I have no idea what it could be. ACTUALLY it started skipping 2 days after the reformat and I did a system restore and that fixed it but I noticed a small skip every so often in a game..maybe 3-4 times in a 30min a game. Now today like I said, it skips h-core. I system restored again and it fixed it..KINDA...if i move the mouse enough it will like trigger it to be choppy for about 5 seconds after i stop and then keep doing it every so often then stop...it's very unpredictable. Now I changed my opengl settings kinda and went in and it was choppy like usual...so I set them back and it stays choppy like usuall again..it's so wigged.

I'm seriously thinking about buy a whole new computer with HSF that I can keep on low because I wouldnt need to OC the chip b/c it would be a nice speed in the begining like a AMD64+. I have a Mobile Barton 2500+ atm...I set it back to stock speeds until I play games I need it for.

Now I've had so much bs w/ this computer It's like yukk..i just want to pick it up and throw it and go buy a fresh new computer you know? With my watercooling, and all this problems and stuff I cant take it..it just seems like this computer is destined to be suxx0r.

Post help/opinions/anything!!pleeease
 
Is it just fps games, online games or is it also affecting pc programs, playing videos etc?

Maybe its your ISP if its just online games, try playing a different times of the day (off peak hours mind you).

Maybe reinstalling directX would help if its just games.
 
ya it's FPS drop in game. Videos run fine. I am not going to play cs on off hours but my computer is suxx0r. And this happened on a different ISP as well. BTW my brother dosent have this problem and we play at the same time on the same game..in the same game. Mine skips, his dosent. gg
 
Tons of things could be contributing to this

HEAT: check the fans on your proc and your video card. A GPU that is overheating can show symptoms like you are describing

Spyware/Adware/Malware: Download, UPDATE, and run adaware and spybot search and destroy. The combination of the two will remove everything but the nastiest of malware.

Virus: Update and run your antivirus. Don't have one? Download and install the free version of AVG for desktop antivirus protection or visit trendmicro.com and run their free online virus scan.

Update all your drivers on your system.

Check your system logs and see if anything is crashing on your computer

How many programs do you have running in your system tray? Go into MSCONFIG and disable everything that you don't need.

Windows updates!

When was the last time you defraged? Do this often to prevent system performance killing problems.

How much free space do you have on your comp? Uninstall anything that you don't need anymore, clear your temp folders and your temp internet files folders and then defrag.

Check your Task Manager. Is there any one process that seems to be constantly using the processor or writing to disc? If there is, try shutting it down (Windows won't let you kill system critical processes.)

Try these and let us know if the problem remains.

my guess is this... a lot of system process can really slow down your computer, i always havta delete soo many but i jus delete explorer and its process tree and then delete the other trash and then restart explorer

if worst comes to worst, reinstall ur os for a fresh new feeling
 
Well, if anyone read my post, I said I just reformated four days ago and it's still doing the problem.

Heat: deff not an issue, I have water cooling and it's running good.

I have spybot and ad-ware and I have ran both. I also have Norton Antivirus 2004 Pro and ran it and got everything good.

I just reformated and all drivers are the newest.

Nothing is crashing.

I run my volume icon, ATI icon, Wireless internet connectivity and antivirus in system tray. Like always..never has effected it.

Done all my windows updates.

Again, like I already said, I reformated, I have plenty of space, it's a 160gig hdd.

Everythings worken in task manager.

GG I'm thinking I could sell this computer for a grand and buy a nice one for $14-1500...

good idea... but you should build one for yourself
 
does your AV software automagically scan . . . it could be occuring during your attempted gameplay, disable it and see what happens.


you might also try manually setting your XP page file
 
Does this only happen with online gaming? Have you tried another game? CS offline, CZ perhaps? Does the skipping happen during fire fights only or during "peacetime"?

If it happens offline too, unplug your internet connection and try again.

I had a similar, but not as bad problem as you. Believe it or not, getting a firewall router fixed it. I was getting mad pings at my system that my computer would stutter during online gaming.

If you don't have at least a software firewall, get that.

By the way, the time it takes for you to download the MS updates after a reformat is enough time to have your system get attacked. The fact that a system restore fixes it, only to be a problem soon after gives me the fuzzies in the stomach that your system may be under attack. Beef up the security.

Also, try the Hijack This software. Search google and look for a link that (i think) is spywareinfo.com. If you are a gamer, you should have very little stuff running in the background. If you see something that you don't recognize, search it via google.
 
You just reformatted? Did you re-install the MB/system drivers?

Is you hard drive running in DMA or PIO mode? If it is in PIO mode, that's your problem.

Hijack this is a great tool, however, if you don't know what your doing, it is either going to be useless or be very dangerous.

If you have updated and run ad-aware and spybot, I would also suggest downloading CWshredder. Search for it and run it. Cool Web Search is just about the nastiest malware on the internet. Neither ad-aware or spybot can remove it. The only way to get rid of that is to use the above mentioned tool.

I would also say to boot into safe mode and run all the tools again. I have seen spyware packages that are so completely hidden from Windows that they can't be viewed while you are in normal Windows.

You have water cooling. Great! Now what are your temps? The water block may not be making good contact with your cpu and causing it to run hot. Also, are you using your water cooling to cool your vid card as well?
 
I'd say its your wireless internet connection. Did you get a new 2.4GHz phone? Someone using the microwave a lot?

I'm still amazed that so many people are still playing CS.
