Could this be a PSU problem?

Hi. I bought a case that came with a 420W power supply. It worked fine for normal operation, but I started having problems when I overclocked. My computer hangs frequently, and it sometimes restarts. Te PSU is a Raidmax. The +12V rail fluctuates between 11.7 and 11.7 volts, and the +3.3V rail runs at 3.1V. I also have the information from the sticker of the PSU.

+3.3V +5 +12 -5V -12 +5sb

26.0A 32.0 13.0 0.5A 0.8 2.0

I'm thinking that it is a PSU problem, but I am not sure.

WHat are thes system specs?

But a 13amp 12v....yeah pretty weak on a POS PSU like that with an unknown derating curve. Although the 12v isn't fluctuating much(see the bolded) :p

Did you check the numbers with a multimeter....software isn't accurate?

Also remember no OC is gaurenteed.

Hi. The system specs are

P4 2.4Ghz@3.00Ghz
1GB PC2700@PC3200
BFG 6800OC
Gigabyte 8S648FX-RZ

Thanks for the guide, I'll be sure to look at it.

Yeah you are looking for a new PSU in all likelyhood. How did you get your voltages though?

The XClio 450W for $52 is the cheapest I could recommend & the sky is the limit.

The Antec True Power II 550W SLI Certified can often be found for under $100 &
the Antec SmartPower II 500W & the Fortron Blue Storm are usually around $70.

The OCZ PowerStreams are excellent PSU's & Directron has the 520W for only $109 after MIR.

Good Luck,
Dave ;)

Hi.I got my voltages throught the BIOS and I don't have access to a multimeter. I was thinking about getting a 450W OCZ Modstream since they are on sale on Newegg right now.Is that a good PSU?

Ok well BIOS isn't real accurate.

The Modstream is good.

Ok. Thanks for your help everyone, I think that I will buy the Modstream.

Before you buy it make sure your case and ATX connector are going to be within the reach of the PSU. Meaning the ATX connector on the modstreams is too short for some large cases and mobo's wit hthe ATX connector in funky place combinations.

Hi. I think the ATX connector is fine. How long is the cable on the Modstream?
