Could I do this?

Would using a hand drill with an 80mm hole peice scratch the glass around it? Or is it safe to use?

When you say hole piece I assume you are talking about a hole saw and not a spade. I would not recommend using a spade on plexi. A 3" hole saw should do the trick for you as long as you take it slow. Make sure you use a drill with high torque so it doesn't bind on you. Try to use a corded drill if you have access to one, they won't crap out on you half way through a job.

Also, is there enough room up there? Looks kind of cramped to me. You may have to move your optical drive(s) down a bay. I assume you're planning on putting it between the existing blowhole and the front of the case?

Good luck.

Well, I actually think I'll just put a fan in my 2 empty drive bays. Those are plastic, so I won't have any problems drilling through and it will look cool with the case :)

hole saw is the way to go. make sure to cover the plexi which you are not going to cut with masking tape so you dont slip and scratch it. also have a friend or someone spraying wd 40 on the cut while you are cutting. it will help the process. - g0at

cutting the plastic is just like cutting the plexie, I've worked with both, so tape up the ariea with a couple layers of masking tape, draw out where you want it, and drill, go slow, if you go too fast you will melt the plexi instead of cutting it (you can go fast and melt but then you have to deal with the melted plexi that hardens back onto the hole, if your ok with a dremil or a knife its not that big a dea,

ive put fan holes in plexi windows and dremiled out grills into plastic bezles they both get hot melt (the parts that you cut off not so much the medium as a hole) and stick, )

oh also dont push too hard give enouph pressure to keep the drill moving but not so much that you bend the plexi thats when you may have some issues with it cracking, slow steady, even pressure

good luck and happy modding
