Hi,

OCZ DDR2-800 REaper 1024 MB w/Heatpipe Cooling (2)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750 gb sata II
2x XFX Geoforce 8800GT (SLI)

Using Corsair HX620w - Power Supply - It is SLI Ready (per their site)

I've used a couple sites to gauge how much power I need and came up with just 450w, but I've read other posts where sli set-ups need 750+ minimum. NVidia site is unclear as my set-up seems to be in the extreme category which.

I may also upgrade to a quad core or upgrade to newer 9 series cards and add another hard drive in the future. It looks like GTX or Ultra need the 750 supply per cosairs site, but this seems strange as the GT max wattage is 138 and the gtx is 145. Doesn't seem like enough to warrant a bigger power supply. Is this due to power requirements beyond wattage? Does anyone know if any of the next gen cards will have a similar power requirement as the g92 8800gt thereby making an upgrade feasable without a new power supply?

Thanks

Yup, your still good. I read a person had a SLI setup with 2 x video cards, 2 x HDD, 2 Optical drices, sound card, and case fans. This was on a Corsair HX520 PS.

don´t worry that PSU will do just fine! it is a very good PSU

Yes, newer graphics cards should have reduced power consumption, barring any radical architectural changes. I think the G100 will consume more power than the 9800GX2 but this has yet to be seen.

that psu has a total of 50A you would need some serious hardware installed to get up to that amount.

The Corsair HX520 PS has a combined 40A on triple +12V rails. And as the poster above me has pointed out, the Corsair HX620 has a total of 50A.

My system:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
Intel E8400 C2D
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro (775)
A-DATA 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) (2 kits: total of 8Gbs ram)
EVGA Geoforce 8800GTX
Thermaltake CL-G0102 VGA Cooler
Western Digital Raptor 150GB
Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB (x 2)
Asus Xonar D2X PCI
Samsung 20x DVD-RW
Nec 3.5 Floppy
LINKSKEY 52-in-1 USB 2.0 Internal 3.5" Card Reader
4 Case Fans

Would the HX520 suffice or do I actually need the more powerful HX620 ?

Shouldn't be a problem. I actaually had a friend how ran GTX SLI on a 520w corsair :D

You're fine with your setup also. You only have 1 x 8800GTX and some additional drives like an extra HDD and another Optical drive. These components don't draw that much power and will not stress the load on that 520HX PS. HDD only consumes like 10 watts or less. The same goes for the Optical drives.
