hey i am looking to do mac pro case mod for my next pc case. it will involve some slicing and dicing and i was wondering if anybody knew whether or not the new x58 mother boards will be the same dimensions as current atx boards.

Thanks in advance,

1. the core i7 physical socket is larger than a 775, if thats what you were wondering?
2. That mobo is almost certainly E-ATX. Im sure that there will be ATX x58 mobos though...

So far, I have only seen ATX x58 mobos, not sure about E-ATX. ASUS's P6T is also ATX.

If you look at the mounting holes, there is no way that is E-ATX.

This might be the noobiest question ever asked so please bear with me. Will the new socket also support the old lga 775 cpus?

The socket (and therefore processor) is roughly 15% bigger:

You might want to read the rules on hotlinking. (hint: it's not allowed)

The board in that X58 picture looks a bit larger (E-ATX) but I think they're sticking with the standard ATX motherboard design.

It's definitely not E-ATX. It is a bit wider than most boards though, because it has to accomodate the extra two RAM slots.
