I have a IBM server with a RAID 5 (3-18gb SCSI) that i am being asked to upgrade (3x 36g SCSI).

i know my partition magic 8 will not copy a Win Server 2003 partition. will Ghost? what other utils would you recommend to copy the current array over to a larger array and resize the partitions to full capacity?

and the RAID controller (software nor in BIOS) does not include any util to allow the copy

thanks for the advice

Easy!

Get Acronis true image server(runs about $900) yes its expensive but it picks up raid arrays like a champ.
IMO ghost has always lacked good raid support.
With ATI you basically create an image send it out to a NAS or file share.
Stick in the new drives make them apart of the array then use the acronis boot cd. Boot from the cd and its very easy just click restore and choose the netwokr path for the image then voila your done

thanks for the reply. i checked into the Acronis true image. but with Christmas and seeing how i just bought myself another guitar

I will likely get the Acronis true image at some point soon, but for now, i was able to use Ghost to get the job done. in fact ghost got the arrays right off, and the new array is working fine.

it kinda irks me that an old version of Ghost does the job and PQ-Magic and even seatgate drive tools will terminate once a Server 2003 installation is detected.

of well, it's done and i learned something :D

thanks again.
