Hi everyone,

I just got my TEC fragbox up and running and I was hoping if someone out there could point me in the right drirection for software. What are the best programs for monitoring CPU temps? Back in the day I used Motherboard Monitor 5 but that is archaic now. What do you guys recommend? Also, how about for benchmarking? What are most people using for frames and scores? 3DMark still one of the best?

I'd like to overclock my box but I'd like to get a baseline for where I am at now and go from there.

Coolit Eliminator MTEC CPU cooler
Liteon 20X DVD burner SATA






Any help guys would be greatly appreciated. As soon as I get some temps I will post them. I know there has been a lot of interest concering the Eliminator and just how cool it can keep a CPU...especially an overclocked CPU in a SFF.
 
CoreTemp is popular but its problematic (as in not accurate) with some chips and mobos. Everest is supposed to be about the best but its not free. There are others but their names escape me now.
 
If you're looking for freebies would recommend trying Speedfan, or even nvidia's nTune. Both have the ability to monitor temps. Rivatuner may work for you as well. Personally, I use Everest. It's a great program that can do so much more than just monitor temps. I thought it was worth the purchase price.

If you're looking for simple benchmarking, 3DMark06 is pretty much the standard. Take the results with a grain of salt though. While it can give you some basic performance data, it's not about having the highest score anymore. I use it simply to benchmark my own machine after I make configuration changes. I want to make sure it stays stable, and anything I do, doesn't have a detrimental effect on performance.

Thanks craigbru (and Skott) on the advice. I ended up getting Everest Ultimate. It seems worth it. I'll use that for temps. I'm also going to get my hands on 3DMark.

craigbru, I was able to see your project webpage for your rig and was totally amazed. NOW that is the paradigm for a SFF TEC setup. I can't believe how much work you put into it bro. Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

I'll post those temps and benches when I get them.
 
Nice job on cramming all that in a SFF case. I like coretemp for my cpu temp monitoring and speedfan for chipset and such. But you already have something.

As for 3DMark, I'd say to just use the free version. Only thing the paid one lets you do it change resolutions and put more results online which is debatable in how useful either of those are when compared to paying nothing.
 
3DMark06 will show your card being a fair bit slower than an X2900XT, which is kind of unfair to real world performance... but it has been used for so long, it is still the benchmark most people use.

I never knew you had to pay for Everest... It is a popular utility, though. Sandra will give you several similar utilities and benchmark options for free. Most use it for memory bandwidth testing, but it has tons of other options.

CPU-Z or Everest for overclock info.

StuperPI on XS is popular for I don't know what reason.

ORTHOS is good for stability testing.

iTAT is good for accurate temps (designed by intel) SpeedFan is not too far off of this anymore (runs a little hot)

Crystalmark was being used during the joke of the "Forum Warz," and it is a quick and dirty individual or system performance benchmark.

Awesome. Thanks for all the links and leads on good software. I think I am just gonna grab the basic edition of 3DMark06. I couldn't believe it was like 510MB. Sheesh.

That URL for EOCF looks promising. Thanks also for the compliments on the rig.
