I was wondering if anyone had experience with either...

I am currently using a ZALMAN CNPS9700 in my SG01, with the crossflow fan in the back. It was a very tight fit, I had to take the grill off, but it does fit now.

I was wondering how effective the NT06 and power supply method would be, because my ZALMAN is kind of loud when my CPU gets hot, and I wanted to see about replacing it. The only bad thing is I don't think the crossflow fan would fit anymore meaning I wasted $26 in addition to buying the new heatsink. Also the ZALMAN is a pain in the ass to work with lol.

Main reason why I ask is because I plan on getting an SG03 for aesthetic reasons, as well as I heard it flows better and my case is somewhat hot. And I can't put a bigger video card in without modification.

Well, what kind of a CPU do you have, is it overclocked, how hot is it getting, etc.?

The NT-06 plus power supply thing can work, but there are some considerations: the fan in your PSU must run fast (if you get a "quiet" PSU then it won't be fast enough, you may need to replace that fan). Also you might try wedging a 80mm or 120mm fan underneath the NT-06, blowing up, to assist.

To tell the truth, if you want to have a fast-running PC, you should use a bigger case. Otherwise be prepared to do a lot of tweaking, and even then you may not get everything you want.
 
I have a Q9300, not overclocked. I'd rather it be quieter than what I have now, my computer is plenty fast enough as it is.

My BIOS has no overclocking options anyway.
 
I'd say, you will be fine with an NT-06 + suitable power supply.

However, I would also have said, you will be fine with a CNPS9700. Many other people here are satisfied with that. But you aren't. So maybe I am missing something here...
 
The Silverstone website implies that you can't use both the NT-06 and the crossflow fan simultaneously.

The NT-06 has a spot for a fan though to help if you don't mind it not being completely passive.

I just ordered an NT-06 to use in my build with a Q9450 in the SG01-F, so I'll let you know how it goes when it shows up.

My problem is I want a quieter system. It cools just fine, but I want a quieter system. If the NT06+PSU fan cools fine for a Core 2 Quad then I'd like to have that. It'd eliminate 2 fans (although one of them I wouldn't mind)

So I was kind of wondering if the elimination of those 2 fans would cause a negative impact on my system's overall cooling compared to the 9700 plus crossflow fan.

I think that it will be quieter, but also a lot hotter. Maybe too hot for your processor. Because the NT-06 is simply not an efficient heatsink (although it's good for its size). What kind of temperatures are you getting at the moment? Perhaps you can just slow the fans on your CNPS9700.
 
I am getting around 50-55 at just running Windows and a few other applications, so it's not that cool as it is. The CNPS9700 is already staying at 50% speed (1200rpms out of 2400rpms... unless I read the specs wrong) pretty much all the time anyway.
 
I am embarassed. This whole thread I said I have a 9700... I have an 8700. There's no way a 9700 would fit in here lol.

I was looking at some stuff on the NT06 cooler, and it says "suitable for CPUs with wattage up to 115W and quiet operation up to 100W only". Since the Q9300 is 95W I should be fine right?
