I have my i7 930 running fine with my cooler master v8 for the past 6 months at 3Ghz. I wanted to OC it on air, 4Ghz would be beast but i dont have my hopes up.

3.69 (168 x 22) Prime 95 was reading 78- 81 C

3.8 Ghz (19 x 200) i needed to up the voltage and in the end the temps were reaching 79 - 85 C so i stopped the tests only after one Prime 95 iteration.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what Fan i can swap out for my V8 cooler? Or am i expecting too much?

Ideally I would like under 80 C at 100% load.

I have it at 3.5Ghz 160 x 22 and Prime 95 gives me 78 so I'm fine.

ok, i guess everyone believes the V8 cant be helped as it is flawed from the beginning i suppose?

Oh Well im on my way to 3.8 Ghz. Just need to lower my temps, i still hit 83-87C, after 4 Prime 95 iterations.

I'll have to see if i can add more case fans to get better circulation, 800D Case btw.

Is the V8 compatible with 120x120x38mm fans?
I always want to recommend those Delta 200cfm. :p

lol no deltas for me!

I have my own mickey mouse setup at the moment as i wait for a fan controller, newegg fans, and IC diamond instead of AS5.

I have it at 3.8Ghz (19x200) Prime 95 for an hour gets me two cores at 88C, and the other two at 83C. I'm hoping that re-seating my V8 and providing more ventilation i can lower them to at least 80C.

Any info on the flaws of the V8 please?I heard people talking about its flaws but no specific one.

I just dumped my v8 to get a Prolimatech Armageddon. My temps went down around 5c under load, though I only overclock to 3.2 ghz with turbo enabled.

The v8 was good in its day but is not a good fit for the core i7's with anything more than a moderate overclock. Suggest you switch to Prolimatech Armageddon or Megahalem, TRUE, Cogage True Spirit, or other similar tower design coolers. These have proven to be the most effective design for handling the increased heat of your cpu.

Also, the C0 stepping i7 will not overclock as well as the D0, so you may not make it to 4 ghz even with improved cooling.

I reseated my v8 with IC Diamond 7carat and i might have put that stuff on wrong due to it being completely different than AS5 in terms of consistency, but it does work!

I managed to get 3.85Ghz (175*22) with an 80C average on P95 while using 1.30v which seems to be the limit at this voltage.
