Cooler problem

Hey guys, I just mounted my Xigmatek S1283 and I was wondering, are the temps supposed to be lower right away? My core temp and real temp still read 34c idle with my E8500 which is the same temperature as the intel stock cooler. help!!

ignore idle temps.. only look at your load temps.. intel die sensors suck balls at idle..

Yep, this exactly. Idle temps are essentially meaningless as a measure of performance, so you'll need to load up your CPU and check the temperatures then to get a good idea of how you're doing.

Oh ok I didn't know that. Thanks guys! My next question is what is the max temp that my cpu should not pass? In other words whats the limit i should not pass when ocing?

Your CPU can technically handle temperatures of up to 100C without needing to throttle. I generally like to keep things below 75-80C though, at least for longer periods of time. In practice, you really don't have to worry about your temperatures at all, since as long as your cooler is installed properly, the likelihood of your CPU actually exceeding safe temperatures is very small.

ok thanks for the info, it really helped me since I am fairly new at OCing. One last question! when i was installing my cooler, i accidently slid it around a lot when trying to figure out how to use the bolt through kit. Will there be a problem with the thermal paste? I mean there isnt paste oozing off the cpu but I'm worried it wont transfer heat correctly

Sliding around is okay, as long as you didn't lift the heatsink off of the CPU.
