Hi, i was wondering if anyone could offer some preferances on coolants. I am looking for UV blue liquid and right now im looking at:

Fluid XP HP
Fluid XP EXT
PrimoChill ICE

i have a high flow pump and 1/2 OD, 3/8 ID tubing, 120.1 rad and a smaller res. This loop only cools my CPU.

Any help on which would be good to use would be great, and if they are all pretty close to the same, anyone knwo which will hav a better UV effect?

thanks!

I use PC ICE as I heard it doesnt build up residue liek fluid xp can. I can't comment on the UV part as I only have regular ccfl's, but the blue color is nice and the coolant is clear not cloudy. I have had 2 leaks, one landing on hard drives and the other on the back of my video card, no damage either time (tho my ide cable did get a blue tint to it). Seems to perform well in my system, I started with it so I cannot compare it directly to regular water, but it has kept my pc alive even when part failure occurs.

PrimoChill ICE I like I added Pentosin G11 from Petrastechshop.com

its antifreeze that is used in german made cars...... and its a really good blue color, I added it to PC ICE clear

I use this and pentosin. Pentosin in my CPU loop, the hy-per lube in my NB GPU loop.

I happened upon the hy-per lube by chance and snagged some because I liked the color, its non-conductive and looks good too. Temps are good also.

Pentosin all the way... very happy with it... no need for algae killer as it's toxic itself, great with different metals and it looks awesome and doesn't clog the blocks.

If you want to check this little research I made nothing professional but cool enough I think.

Pento Research

And here a picture of how it looks in my loop ...

I 2nd the pentosin. Nice blue (not UV, tho) and you get enough to last you for years!

Check out this thread on Overclockers Forums... Very GOOD reading.

Not all antifreeze contains silicates, in fact old Honda Goldwings were required to use Honda - specific antifreeze, because it was known that the silicates in most antifreeze brands contributed to water pump failure. However, the problem was that the silica was slowly grinding away the soft aluminum shaft *inside* the seal, not the seal itself (whereas most other w/p shafts are steel, not aluminium). Silicates will not harm rubber seals 'tho... but you can easily buy antifreeze without it, if you're concerned about it.

Pentosin DOES make good products though, their engine oils are top notch.

BMW coolant is also blue, FWIW.

And BTW.... Mercedes and BMW antifreeze are both silicate-free (I've heard that MB and BMW are the same aside from the dye color, but I can't confirm that), probably Pentosin also.

I decided to go with Primochil ice, being UV blue was important to me in my set up. and this has the nice crystal look at other times.

Does anyone know if i need to add alge prevention to primochill stuff? i know a lot of companies include it in their pre-mixed stuff wondering if primochill has it already in there

thanks
