I've been trying to get this to work with no immediate avail...

I installed the drivers from AMD's site and then restarted my pc, set it to enabled in BIOS and no change, I thought I might have my HSF in the wrong power port and so checked it up and it was in the wrong one but changed it to the right one and still no change????

can anybody help???

You need to set the profile in your Power Management properties to "Minimal Power Management". As long as you have that set, you have the driver installed, and have the BIOS setup correctly, the CPU should throttle down.

Would that be in bios or in control panel?
 
Okay i changed it to max saving in bios and i can't say it's changed anything, fan is still spinning @ 3000rpm and northbridge is spinning @ 7000rpm

Edit: ahh, dropped down to 1500rpm, Is there a similar programme I can put on my nvidia 6600gt? I hardly use games so I would like to underclock it or set up something similar to the amd version???? the northbridge is fine @ 7000rpm as I have a new one coming shortly.

Power Options, in your Windows control panel. Set the "Power Scheme" to "Minimal Power Management". Make sure the driver is installed and your BIOS is set up for Cool & Quiet operation. This typically involves setting any C&Q related options to AUTO.
 
i set cool n quiet to on and that's all i could see that was obvious cooling related.

my pc is actually really quiet. can't wait till i get my nv silencer 6 and zalman NB cooler. do you have a recommendation for case fans that are really silent for exhaust and intake?
 
Low-speed Panaflos.

Stay away from brands like Thermaltake and SilenX, their specs may be tempting, but they are often misleading.
 
can you still use cool and quiet even though you're overclocking?

Nexus fans are some of the quietest available. You're right on the thermaltake...those are NOT quiet, even at low voltages.

You're wrong on SilenX. I have a silenX 120, and it's a VERY quiet fan, and pushes more air than most fans at the same noise level.

Stay away from vantec stealths. I've tried those, and they aren't as quiet as they're hyped up to be.

im not overclocking

so far in an hour i've been underclocked to 1ghz (800mhz loss)

I've been able to get better results temperature-wise with undervolting rather than using cool n quiet. I'm running stable right now at 1.1 volts (speedfan reads 1.06) and at stock speeds. Try dropping your vcore 1 step at a time and testing it to find the lowest stable voltage you can get.

When I had all air-cooling stuff, I ran all of my fans at 5v, and my system was basically inaudible. Not the coolest, but if you're not going for overclocks, that's the way to do it. There is a challenge in balancing cooling and quietness. Silence can be just as addicting as overclocking once you get into it :D
 
agreed, fan has gone up 2000rpm because it's heating up alot now (30 to 48 degrees)

i think i will drop the vcore down, but it's already very low iirc.

running an amd 3000+ winchester

I'll agree that they're quiet, but they are way overpriced for just some undervolted sleeve bearing fans.
 
agreed. I'll never purchase another one. I bought it before I was wise ;)
