i've done reading.. I want to know from personal experiance of others..

Is it worth cooling the chipset.. I dont want to waste $40 that could go torwards something else
 
I think so if you are OC ing If you dont want to buy them and have an old cpu heatsink around, but out the dremel and make a few!~
 
lol i would... but id prolly blow up my computer..

cus heres my logic.. the 2 things that i feel are most important for me to cool are my cpu and my gpu..

since those are the 2 things that ill be overclocking

by adding a 3rd thing im not only making it harder for my pump to pump water im also adding more heat to my overall system....

so i mean... will i actually notice a difference?

i think the same thing, but remember, OC'en puts ALOT of preasure on your chipset, so it does need some sort of active cooler.
 
im still running fans along with the WC.... and there is a heatsink already on the chipset
 
everyone ive talked to about it says its sorta unproductive to cool the northbridge, it doesent help enough to justify the reduced flowrate / heat it puts in the cooling loop. A decent heatsink with a small fan should perform almost as good anyway for ya...now if epox would just put some dang mounting holes around the nf3 chip :(
 
yeh prolly not gonna run a chipset then...

only thing now i cant decide on is if i should get danger dens wc block for their video card or just get a swiftech and only cool the gpu.. but by doing that theres no longer direct air blowing on the ram sinks.. meh...
 
if your chipset heat sink doent have a fna on it, put one on, most of em fit 40mm fans fine.
 
you can always add a side intake fan over the videocard, or mabe use a slot cooler to help circulate the air, i use the MCW-50 block with some vantec? copper ramsinks and havent had any drop in my ram OC since i added the waterblock (although i think i screwed up my ram when i volt modded, i went from 2.6v to 2.8v and couldnt OC anymore that normal, so dropped back to 2.6v and now i get artifacts at my previous max oc!!)

ok so what im trying to say is you should probably be ok with some decent ramsinks and no heatsink on the gpu as it only blew rather hot air around anyway, a side intake would be the best solution there id think
 
In my case, cooling the NB chipset with the Swiftech MCS-159R made a difference. I chose not to install a waterblock on NB so I wouldn't have to impede flow to the CPU and the GPU.
 
I did mine, but don't think it was necessary, or even much use. I think passive cooling with a decent-size heatsink is plenty, and is what I'll be doing whenever I end up moving this rig to a new motherboard.

By then, you may end up with sli videocards anyways, requiring an extra block.
