Possible? Can you hit everything in a case with heatpipes and big heatsinks and have them all with accessable fresh cool air below and use the laws thermodynamics to pull air in while the heat raises off of the sinks?

The question isn't really possible, but more feasible with the ammount of heat newer comps generate.

I believe one of the Mac cube models was cooled with no mechanical airflow.

I'd like to experiment with this
 
Some people do it but you need specialty parts. Is this for noise, or bragging rights? Because if its for noise, there are plenty of fans out there that are silent to the ear and work well.
 
Convection == fluid flow.

conduction == flow of heat inside one medium

radiant == now air flow.

Radiant sucks, unless it is very shiny and there's a lot of it.

Edit:

Heatpipes are technically convection, yes. Heatpipes will not work well with just radiant cooling, however.
 
Not just for noise, but just to know that I have done it successfully.

I have a SFF PC running with yate-loons and water cooling and it is sufficiently quiet.

I was looking for a future project that I might take on, including the idea of making the case of a PC the heatsink.
 
As an earlier poster showed, Zalman makes a case with built in PSU that is absolutely silent with no moving parts at all. I utilizes 2 sets of heatpipes to transfer heat from the video card and cpu to the outside of the case, which is constructed as large aluminum heatsinks. The motherboard and NorthBridge are cooled by mounting small copper cylinders between the motherboard and the motherboard plate and must be very carefully mounted. It uses custom made copper blocks to attach multiple heatpipes to each cooler. The PSU is also custom built by Zalman and is attached as part of the side panel.

I've assembled only one system like this before for work. It's currently running a 2.93GHz Intel Celeron underclocked and undervolted and it still tends to get a bit warm. I'd recommend if you try something you'll probably need to make most of the components from copper rather than aluminum in order to be able to run anything semi-powerful.
