contrast ratio vs. response time

i am considering two monitors to buy at the moment. one is the dell 1905FP and the other is the samsung 930b.

the dell 1905FP has an 800:1 contrast ratio while the samsung 930b has a 700:1 however the 930b has a 8ms response time and the other has a 20 ms.

i was just wondering what exactly each of those mean. besides those differences, they appear to be identical. i'll be using the monitor mostly for watching movies, not too much gaming.

which one should i get?
 
If your gaming, 20ms is simply unacceptable as you will get to much "Ghosting" as a result of the pixels not being able to switch colors fast enough, resulting in a blurry picture. Movies that move fast will also blur if the response time is slow.

700 contrast vs 800 contrast isn't much of a difference to justify going the higher one, get the samsung with the faster refresh rate.

In reference to computer monitors, the measurement of the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black. Contrast ratio is often used in marketing computer monitors, where a high contrast ratio, such as 400:1, represents a better color representation (the better the information will appear against a darker background) on the monitor than a lower contrast ratio, such as 150:1.
