I would like to continue a discussion that started here:

before I was ultimately banned after my final post.
I do consider 4x4 to be somewhat of a desperate move by AMD. To me it screams EE or Emergency Edition. I'm not saying the technology is bad, in fact, it might perform on par with Kentsfield or even better. I just think that AMD is choosing to cannibalize their server parts (Santa Rosa) in order to at least provide a 4 core solution. I just don't think AMD has any real long-term plans for this platform seeing as AM3 is coming out next year and is meant for the desktop. I felt the same way about EE when it was released. It just seems that this pattern is following the trail led by the EE and Intel. I really don't consider Intel's 4 core solution to be particularly elegant right now (dice on one package) but I really think they got the drop on AMD doing this. Not that 4 cores is needed by desktop users now anyway, but I still think it's an interesting observation that warrants further discussion.
Also, are Intel and AMD really that different in terms of platform changes? Granted C2Ds do not work in older 775 boards (even ones with 945, 975), but is that really much different than AMD just releasing a new socket altogether. IMO, both companies are guilty of this but was wondering if people here felt differently.
This thread isn't for bashing AMD or Intel, only to address observations made by myself and others in the AMDZone forums. I can no longer post there because "The Ghost" found my last post offensive, I guess, so I would like to continue here. Post away.
