Constant Hum from Microphone

I'm using a Creative Audigy2 ZS soundcard and some crappy Mic from Wal-Mart. The problem is recent.

A few days ago, all of my friends started yelling at me on vent because of some loud noise. I had no clue wtf they were talking about, but low and behold, there is definitely a loud buzzing noise (when I go into sound options and turn on the option so that the mic plays through my speakers, it makes a loud constant but slightly wavy noise). I'm not really sure why this is, as it has been working fine for about a month, then one day there's a noise.

I really need to get this fixed, because I play WoW and raiding without being able to talk in vent is horribly boring

EDIT: I think it's worth noting that the +20 dB boost is OFF, so that is not the problem, nor is it the volume. There is an actual buzz that has shown up somehow.

Try it with a headset to eliminate feedback. If it's low frequency like 60Hz it could be a ground loop though that seems odd with a mic. Still, there could be a grounding issue between equipment. How about other microphones? If it is grounding there are isolators from radio shack and the like that sometimes cure the problem if you can't figure out where the fix is.

Well, I'm getting the hum on my HD485s (only when I check the box to play sounds from the mic), and it's kind of low, but definitely not 60hz, probably more around 100-120hz. I'll borrow another mic from a friend and see if that helps. I just think it's odd that it just happened one day for seemingly no reason.

I think it was getting some kind of interference. I'm not sure what, exactly, but my friends mic worked perfectly, so I unplugged mine, and pulled it completely out of the way I had it ran through my desk with all the other cables, plugged it in and it works fine now. I ran it back through the exact same way I had it and it still works, so I don't know what the hell was going on, but it seems just removing it and putting it back has somehow fixed the problem, hopefully it won't come back =/
