I've been considering watercooling for a while, and decided that if I do it, I'd like to do 1/4 inch, I have no need for high flow/high performance, I'm just going to be cooling an Athlon 3500+ (939).

I need to know:
Absolute cheapest recommended setup
Best bang for buck

I would be doing it all in a coolermaster centurion 5.

Eheim 1046 $55 (@SharkaComputers)
Alphacool NexXxos XP Light $30 (@SharkaComputers)
Black Ice Pro $35 (@SharkaComputers)
Alphacool AGB 1.1 $40 (@Performance-PCs)
Distilled Water $2 (grocery store)
6ft 8mm blue tubing $10 (@HighSpeedPC)
Innovatek G1/4 10/8mm compression fittings x6 $24 (@HighSpeedPC)
Eheim 1046 discharge adapter $5 (@SharkaComputers)

$201

shave off $36 and replace it with a T-fitting and Danger Den brass plug (not fillport)
shave off another $7 and get Masterkleer 7/16" (still 6ft)
shave off another $10 for a D-Tekk DB-1
remove Innovatek fittings and replace them with x8 D-Tek G1/4 1/2" fittings, and subtract $6
x9 wormdrive clamps for $9

$151 :(

if you go any cheaper, your just better off getting high-end air cooling.

when it comes to watercooling, you can't cut corners :)

I guess I'll just have to wait until I have a job and can afford better stuff.

thanks anyways guys.

$150 is enough for a decent set up if youre willing look on forums for some good deals ;) id definitely go for it as water is much more fun than air :p

...and make sure it doesn't look ghetto, or your friends will laugh at you.

They saw my PC at a recent mini-LAN at my home, and they were laughing and remarking how so closely it reflected my personality.

my friends would be amazed that you could actually do that to a computer.

I know one person in my town of ~25,000 people who's watercooled a computer.

Hey, I brought this to a 50 man lan, and it was a pretty big hit:

On topic, if $150 is too much, you can get down to $100 before air will be cooler and possibly quieter:

$30: D-Tek White Water
$20: 120mm Heater Core w/ fittings
$20-$25: 110V pump: Eheim 1048, Hydor L20, Via Aqua 1300, or better (check FS/FT forums) + new barbs
$5: 10ft of 7/16"id-5/8"od or other tubing of your choice (make sure you choose all 3/8 or 1/2 fittings)
$10+: 1 gallon distilled H2O, additive of your choice (no need for anti-corrosive if you have no aluminum, but you still need some form of biocide), hose clamps (zip ties or something else are fine if you're using 7/16" tubing with 1/2" barbs), T-line, shipping

Depending on where you look, you might find great used deals or clearance sales, but YMMV as always.

Holy Crap!

Are you 2 competing for the most ghetto setup ever?

I think we need to make this a poll!:D

ikellens wins by far, I didn't use a bucket for a res, didn't have a duct-tape shroud or a heatercore, and didn't make my own CPU blcok.

Ah, so you had the work-in-progress, right?;)

OK, I concede. Does Ikellensbro concede?:p

Sure, I was just trying to defend ghetto ingenuity. I forgot that who it was that posted the strapped on rad ;) Not saying either of us are ghettoer, just that when you don't feel like waiting for something to ship, do the best with what you have :p

Sweet jesus I'm tempted to buy that for my old 478 setup. That is crazy cheap.
