I'm looking to make a new gaming rig :)

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz

Intel BOXDG965SSCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel G965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Reuse my old Antec Aria (which seems to have been discontinued!).

Anyone got an opinion about that mATX mobo? Can't seem to find any reviews on it.

Those with experience with the Aria, do you think the Intel Retail HSF fit with the strangely shaped Aria PSU? Pics from a random review

Also, does anyone know how well thicker video cards that take two slots fit into the Aria? I've been eyeing at the MSI X1900XT with the 100 dollar rebate :)

Would this conroe setup be much better than a AM2 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ setup?

I've always been a AMD fan but the Conroe looks interesting!
 
Aria weak powersupply is problem. Newer Micro-fly or Coolermaster mATX case would better w/ good psu.
 
also, word of advice intel boards are geard towards stability so dont expect to overclock it much or at all.

I'm planning on a similar setup (E6300 with DG965SS) in a SG01 case.
What PSU would be worth looking at?
Thinking of a 7600GS for graphics.
 
i went looking for info on the 965 & found this thread !

i have the 865 micro-ATX board. that one works all right.

i like the idea of having much de computer in a small space.

i have an Opteron dual 175 in an Aspire X-Q Pack micro-ATX case.

the case is a little flimsy - the press-nuts you screw the cover into came off.

i also gave it a Seasonic 430 power supply.

but the Aspire is the nicest uATX case i've found.

i wonder if Intel will surprise us all and the 965 will be a decent OC'er.

i still haven't found any reviews of it.

Yes, the stock heatsink will fit underneath with a little bit of clearance too. Don't expect good temps though, there's not much for ventilation in that case.

The chipset rocks, but that board is not going to.
 
Just buy the Asus P5B-VM. zipzoomfly has it in stock...mine will be here tomorrow. It has a 1.95v cap on the memory if I am reading the PDF right, though.

Jesus Christ, why can't they put out a decent MATX Core2 board already? I keep coming back thinking I want to go Core2 with my new build but I need it to be MATX and there seems to be all sorts of stupid limitations like this.

Ugh.

Anyone have any feedback on these boards? Right now I'm just looking for something to get my feet wet.

That Asus p5b-vm just came out, and it seems to have the most features for an mATX board so far. The only thing still not known is the OC capabilities cause it is new.
 
Ooo if ASUS was given permission to release their Intel G965, the rest should be soon to follow!

All I can tell from the manual is:
VCORE: adjustable (if they don't list it, it's not a good sign)
VDIMM: 1.95
FSB: 200:400
So overall it probably rates about a 3/10 in the OC dept.

Asus still treats mATX boards as stock replacements. Gigabyte looks to have a good one ready to go...

Don't get the Intel board if you want to OC. I still can't do it... No options at all in BIOs... and the damn 1.8V limitation doesnt allow me to run my memory faster... ugh...
 
Picked up a P5B-VM. The only potential problem is the maximum memory voltage of 1.95. When i get my memory in a couple days i will test i out.

Owners may also want to check the new BIOS which raises the FSB max from 400 to 500, it's on the Asus site.

anybody figure anything out yet? i'm really ready to spring for either the asrock conroe945g-dvi or the asus p5b-vm.... still cant really decide because both have seen overclocks to only 300. the asrock can hit 307 or something, but that's miniscule, and i think the most i've heard the asus hit is 300. i'm skeptical about the 400-500fsb because you can't really do anything with the ram voltage being so limited. is there any way the vdimm on the ram slots can be modded? maybe it's too new/unpopular to find out. interesting, but not likely to be my next mobo. the asrock 775twins-hdtv r2.0 mobo seems interesting... someone hit 340 with it. http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=84657&page=2
only problem is that i cant find it for sale anywhere in usa... damm suxors. any help?
 
I'm wondering about the Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-965GM-S2 .... but I can't find it for sale anywhere in Canada. newegg has it however.

I bought Mushkin ram rated at 1.95v to try with my ASUS P5B-VM.. the OCZ ram I am using now won't go past DDR2-667. OCZ says the ram should be able to run fine at 5-5-5-12 but it doesn't :p
