Confused on LCD choosing

1080i roughly equals 720p
1080p is different than 1080i.

It isn't just "1080", that last letter is quite important!

Yeah I know that the i stands for interlaced and p stand for progressive but I always thought the number which in this case 1080 stood for its resolution and then the i or p tells either if that picture is interlaced or progressive. How does 1080i equal a 720p picture?

1080i doesn't equal 720p. It just doesn't.

That LCD is a 1366x768 LCD, so 720p and 1080i are both scaled on it. Someone decided running 720p LCDs at 1366x768 was a good idea, so they do. So if you set your 360 to 1080i, that LCD will downscale it to 1366x768, as opposed to upscaling (I think it upscales anyways) from 720p.

1080i differs from 1080p only in that for 1080i, it draws every other line, then alternates in the subsequent frames, resulting in a lower quality "flickery" picture.
