This is what i own as of now:

AMD Athlon X2 3800+
ASUS A8N Sli Dlx
2GB of Samsung UCCC DDR 400

This X2 does 2.8Gig @ stock volts @ Air cooling just fine :woot:

Now i have an perfect opportunity to dump in the Chip for the price i got it for and go in for a Conroe/Core 2 duo setup. But i wont be going in for a good mobo as of now cause none are available here(Will buy a cheap Asrock for the time being). So advise me weather i should go in for a 6300 and dump this setup or should i keep this setup for some more time. Records on the net indicates that a Stock 6300 does a good job in keeping up with a X2 5000+ and pretty much all of them out perform an FX 62 when overclocked to decent limits. I will be overclocking for sure. But i just wanna hear that the 6300 @ 2..4 or something will outperform an overclocked X2 3800 @ 2.8. Help me with this please.

TIA

I would kill for 3Ghz... But not every Conroe does that... Or it does ???

Anyways i have almost made up my mind for letting the X2 Go.

I you are going to get a conroe then i would say at least the E6400 or the E6600.

You have a X2 which isnt that bad , this processor is better the core 2 i mena but only if it doersnt cost you as much as selling the X2. You are going to see still about 40% which isnt that bad.

I reckon you should burn it out for untill both have four cores on the shelves.

An FX-62 runs at 2.8 Ghz at stock and has twice as much cache as your X2 3800. So that means an FX-62 is already faster than your 3800+ @ 2.8 Ghz immediately. Also, according to AT's numbers, an E6300 matches an FX-62 at only ~2.2 GHz.

So, let's recap:

E6300 < X2 3800+ @ 2.8 Ghz < FX-62 < E6300 @ ~2.3 GHz < E6300 @ 3 GHz+

Upgrade immediately. :D

If you're only way to upgrade is to buy the cheap VIA board to do it, I'd say to wait. I'm not saying not to eventually do it, but do so when you have the money to get a good mobo (when they're back in stock)... ;)

BTW, where are you? I know Newegg has the Gig DS3 available (though it costs more then it did earlier in the week when I checked).

EDIT: Nevermind, just read your profile and saw you're in India. I'd still wait to get a better board.

I have to agree with wtburnette. I missed the part of your post where you said you were buying the ASRock board. You'll be lucky to get 300 FSB out of that thing, which will limit you to 7 * 300 or 2100 MHz on the E6300. Stick with what you have.

LOL
Man you are going to make him sell everything. If you still have ddr1 and agp then take the slow route of slowly eveolving in to conroe with the asus board.

Okey this is what i did...

Sold my x2 3800+ for the price i bought it for... Sold the UCCC 2GB Kit for a little bit of profit... Dug into my closet and found my Venice 3000+ which does 2.5 GHz easily... Found a GB Kit of DDR 400 lying idle there :p... Using my Venice + Sli dlx + 1 GB kit for the time being...

Now the money is in my pocket and eyes over the stores... The first chance i get i am going in for :

C2D 6300/6400
P5W DH/DS3 (They say it will be available here in a weeks time)
I already have a DDR2 533 1 GB kit lying with me... Will use that for the time being till i get a decent DDR2 800 kit or a DDR2 667 Kit with fatboy's on it :D...

Hope i did good...

@nooh Graphics wise i am on X1900XT
