Configuring Drobo w/ Time machine

i have a drobo that i want to use with time machine. Can i just partition the drobo into 2 - partions? will that affect the whole "drobo structure"? right now i have 4x500 in the drobo. i want to use 1tb for time machine and the rest for regular storage use. i will be adding a 2tb drive in the next few days
