Hey guys first of all my setup is in my sig ....i got 2 questions...

Except im going from a 9800pro to a x800 xt pe

Question1:
I basically have tweaked my system to the max ...from windows tweaking to videocard to memory. I was concern haveing such a fast videocard would my CPU be bottlenecking it? Or its fine the way it is...because I was thinking of getting a P4 3.4GHz and put the XT PE on that...but I don't have the money at the moment soo im just going to put it on my P$ 2.8GHz machine. Also will I be able to play HL2,CS:S, Farcry, and Doom 3 with all the quality to VERY HIGH? I only have a 17" monitor so I only play highest res is 1024x768/32bit was wondering if I could crank 6X AA/8X AF on those games and still have good performance?

Question2:
I was wondering since I haven't recieved my XT PE yet im thinking of getting it at BestBuy because I heard they sold XT PEs for $500 but have them as XTs...anyways should I upgrade my POWER SUPPLY to a bigger wattage one? Currently I have a 350watt PSU and currently running a 9800 PRO, 1 dvd rom, 1 hardrive, soundcard etc etc.... so im not powering toooo many things just the regular stuff. Before I install the XT PE on my system can the 350watt PSU keep up? Which should i get?

First off a 350 power supply should be fine. Your cpu will be a bottleneck..that doesnt mean you have to go out an upgrade though. If you want the XT PE to perform to its full potential you would need the fastest cpu you could get your hands on. With an XT PE you will be able to turn all the eye candy on and still get decent frame rates. I wouldnt get it from best buy though. People misunderstand bottlenecking. EVERY system is bottlenecked by SOMETHING, it is just a question of WHAT. With an x800 XT-PE, everything short of an FX-55 is a bottleneck. That doesn't mean your computer won't run everything fast as HELL with an x800 XT-PE, though. Just that the limiting factor is your CPU.

Doom 3 at Ultra detail might be a stretch. But High with lots of AA and AF will be no sweat. Every other game you can pretty well max everything out, including HL2.

Well, more power supply more better. But 350W is probably plenty. If you planned on slapping a water block on the thing and doing insane-o overclocking, I'd say you'd need a bigger PSU. Otherwise, don't sweat it unless stuff starts getting unstable.
 
Thanks for the reply guys i will probobly upgrade my system "cpu" around this time next year
or early 2006 (jan-feb) i think im ok with this setup for now....im kinda curious why someone here said "don't get BB x800 xt pe" whats that about?
 
"Watts mean jack". Just because your PSU carries 350W doesn't necessarly mean that it can support an X800 card.

Check the Amperes on the 12V rail to make sure that it's good enough (if it has less than 15A than you might want to consider getting a new PSU). I've seen 450W PSUs with 10Amps on the 12V rail, and there would surely be no way for it to run any kind of advanced video card (even despite its high wattage).

All in all, though, the X800 cards are remarkable for their lack of power consumption (a good 300W PSU should be able to run it without a sweat).
 
first of all.... upgrading from a 2.8c to a 3.4c is not worth.... unless ur a non overclock at least :p u can probably hit 3.0@ least with ur 2.8.. and can probably surpass 3.4 if u got the right equipment... but yeah overclock and not sheel out 250-350 bucks for a few mhz when u can get them for free.... overclock man overclock.. unless ur 2.8c is an overclocked proc already..
